About D&D Snow Services

The story of two guys who got tired of watching Waterloo Region homeowners get let down by unreliable snow contractors — and decided to fix it.

We Started This Because We Were Frustrated Too

It was the winter of 2022 when Devon Moore and David Fitzpatrick hit their breaking point. Devon was managing a residential property in Kitchener and had hired a local snow removal contractor — a well-reviewed one — for the season. The first major storm hit in mid-November. By 8am, the driveway still hadn't been touched. By 9am, Devon's tenant had called three times. By 10am, Devon was out there with a shovel himself, furious and determined to find a better way.

The problem wasn't a shortage of snow removal companies in Waterloo Region. It was a shortage of reliable ones. Most operated without systems — no route planning, no weather monitoring, no accountability when they missed a visit. Clients were left guessing. Property managers were left fielding complaints. And every winter, the same cycle repeated itself: hire someone promising, get disappointed, scramble to find someone else.

D&D Snow Services launched in the fall of 2023 with one principle: show up, every single time. We built our operation around route optimization, pre-season weather monitoring, auto-dispatch protocols, and a simple promise — if we're contracted, your property is cleared before you need to use it. That principle has driven our growth from a handful of Kitchener driveways to over 75 residential and commercial clients across the entire Waterloo Region. Every five-star review we've received says the same thing: they finally found a company they can count on.

Building the Systems That Winter Demands

After that first winter of frustration, Devon and David spent months studying what separates truly reliable snow removal operations from the ones that consistently let clients down. The answer wasn't effort — it was systems. Most small snow contractors simply react to storms. They wake up when it's already snowing, scramble to assemble their route, and inevitably fall behind when multiple properties need simultaneous attention. Without a dispatch protocol, without pre-programmed trigger thresholds, without pre-positioned equipment, even the most motivated operator can't keep up with a heavy Waterloo Region snowfall event.

D&D Snow Services was designed from day one to eliminate every one of those failure points. Devon personally mapped every route and calculated drive times between properties to ensure realistic scheduling under worst-case conditions. David built the client communication system — confirmation texts after every visit, advance notifications when a storm is approaching, direct phone access during the November-to-April season. Together they established trigger thresholds with their weather monitoring services so dispatch decisions are made automatically, not when someone finally rolls out of bed to check the forecast.

Kitchener-Waterloo winters are not forgiving. The region sits in one of Ontario's most challenging snow corridors — lake-effect systems off Lake Huron push significant snowfall totals through the area regularly, and freeze-thaw cycles create ice conditions that make walkways and parking lots genuinely dangerous. Building a snow removal company in this environment without proper systems is a recipe for failure. Building one with the right systems — and the commitment to never cut corners when conditions are tough — is what D&D is. Three seasons in, our record speaks for itself.

Meet the Team

D&D Snow Services is a two-founder company. Devon and David handle every aspect of the operation personally — from route planning to client communication to storm-day dispatch.

DM

Devon Moore

Operations Lead

Devon is responsible for route planning, truck dispatch, equipment maintenance, and on-the-ground operations during every storm event. He's the one who sets the alarm for 2am when a major system is rolling in — and makes sure every property on the route is handled before sunrise.

Devon's background is in property management and logistics. He's obsessed with route efficiency and accountability systems, which is why D&D Snow's auto-dispatch protocol works as reliably as it does. If you've ever wondered how we always seem to know about a storm before you do — that's Devon's doing.

Devon holds a full commercial vehicle licence and has personally managed snow removal operations across more than 40 residential routes over three seasons.

DF

David Fitzpatrick

Client Experience Lead

David manages every client-facing part of the business: contract onboarding, site visits, invoicing, client communication, and the review process. If you've called our office or received a contract renewal, you've likely spoken with David.

His background is in customer service and business development. Before D&D Snow, David spent four years working with property management companies in the Waterloo Region — which gave him a deep understanding of what commercial clients actually need from a snow contractor (and what they'd been consistently not getting).

David ensures every client knows what to expect, gets confirmation after every visit, and has a direct line to reach us anytime during the winter season. He also manages all new contract intake each fall.

What We Stand For

Four values that shape every decision we make — from hiring to dispatch to how we handle a missed visit.

🛡️

Safety First

An icy walkway is a liability. A slippery parking lot is a lawsuit. We take winter safety seriously — for your property, your tenants, your customers, and our crew. We carry full WSIB coverage and general liability insurance on every job.

Reliability Above All

We built this company because the industry was unreliable. That's the one thing we will never be. If we miss a visit, we're back within two hours. If we can't make it, you'll know in advance. In three seasons, our on-time rate has never dropped below 98%.

Thoroughness

A cleared driveway that still has two inches of packed snow at the end isn't cleared. A salted walkway that missed the front step isn't done. We don't consider a job finished until every square foot of the contracted area is safe to walk and drive on.

📲

Proactive Communication

We tell you what's happening before you need to ask. Storm incoming? You'll know our dispatch plan. Service completed? You'll get confirmation. Something unexpected? We call before you find out the hard way. Communication is part of the job.

Our Credentials & Certifications

We carry all required insurance, safety compliance, and seasonal contractor documentation — everything a property manager or condo board needs before approving any contractor for their property.

🛡️

WSIB Clearance Certificate

Current WSIB clearance provided to all commercial and property management clients before work begins. Protects building owners and condo boards from liability related to worker injury.

📄

Commercial Liability Insurance

Full commercial general liability insurance coverage on all active contracts. Certificate of insurance available on request — provided proactively to property management companies and condo boards.

🚜

Commercial Plowing Certification

Our operators are trained and certified for commercial plowing operations — including parking lot clearing, loading dock access, and multi-tenant property routing. Not just residential driveway operators.

🌿

Environment Hamilton Salt Reduction

We follow Environment Hamilton's recommended salt reduction practices — applying the right amount of ice melter for the conditions, not the maximum. Better for your property's landscaping, drainage, and the regional watershed.

📋

Seasonal Contractor Certification

Registered and compliant as a seasonal property maintenance contractor in Ontario. Fully up to date on municipal requirements for commercial snow removal operations in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and surrounding municipalities.

🚗

Commercial Vehicle Licencing

All plow truck operators hold valid Ontario commercial vehicle licences. Our equipment is properly registered, insured, and road-legal for all-night winter operations in Ontario municipalities.

Professional-Grade Winter Equipment

We invest in the right tools so the job gets done right — every storm, every season.

🚛

Plow Trucks

Full-size commercial plow trucks with hydraulic blades. Built for Ontario winter conditions — from light dustings to heavy lake-effect snowfall events.

🧂

Salt Spreaders

Tailgate and walk-behind salt spreaders for precise, even application. We use professional-grade bulk road salt — not the small bags from a hardware store.

Heated Wire Systems

We carry and install leading roof heat cable brands engineered for Canadian winters. Our installations are clean, properly anchored, and built to last through multiple seasons.

Frequently Asked Questions About D&D Snow Services

The questions homeowners and property managers ask us most often before signing a seasonal contract.

Are you licensed and insured for snow removal in Ontario?

Yes. D&D Snow Services carries commercial general liability insurance and maintains current WSIB clearance on all active client contracts. We provide all documentation to property management clients and condo boards before the season begins — no chasing required.

Which cities do you serve for snow removal?

We service all of Waterloo Region — Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge — plus Guelph, Elmira, Ayr, Brantford, and Woodstock. Contact us to confirm availability for your specific address before the season fills up.

What time will my driveway or parking lot be cleared?

All residential clients are cleared by 7am for overnight storms — guaranteed. Commercial clients and property managers receive service windows documented in their contracts. Our auto-dispatch system triggers routes based on snowfall trigger thresholds overnight so we're never behind the storm when it matters most.

How long have you been in business?

D&D Snow Services was founded in 2023 in Kitchener, Ontario. We've now completed three full winter seasons and grown to 75+ active contract clients. Our founders Devon Moore and David Fitzpatrick are personally involved in operations every winter season.

Do you offer per-visit pricing or only seasonal contracts?

We primarily offer seasonal contracts with flat-rate pricing — this ensures you're protected regardless of how much snow falls that winter, and it allows us to guarantee route priority to contracted clients. Limited per-visit capacity may be available depending on the season. Contact us early in fall for the best availability and locked-in pre-season rates.

Our Core Values

The principles behind every seasonal contract, every dispatch decision, and every morning our crews hit the road before the sun comes up.

Reliability as the Baseline

Showing up every storm isn't a differentiator — it's the bare minimum. We build our dispatch system, contract structure, and crew scheduling around the assumption that conditions will be worst-case. That way, we're always prepared, not scrambling.

🧊

Safety Drives Every Decision

Ice on a driveway or walkway is a liability. We don't make judgment calls on safety — we clear it properly, salt it properly, and verify it before we leave. Whether it's a residential driveway or a commercial parking lot, the standard doesn't change.

💬

Communication Before You Need to Ask

You shouldn't have to text us to find out if we came. We proactively confirm dispatch plans ahead of storms, send completion notifications after each visit, and reach out immediately if anything unexpected arises on your property. Communication is part of the service contract.

Our Story

From a two-plow startup to Waterloo Region's most trusted seasonal snow partner.

  • 2016

First Season — Two Plows, Twelve Driveways

D&D Snow Services launched during one of the heaviest winters Kitchener had seen in a decade. Starting with residential driveways, we quickly earned a reputation for clearing before dawn — before clients even woke up.

  • 2018

    First Commercial Contracts Signed

Word spread among local property managers, and we landed our first multi-unit residential and retail lot contracts. Fleet grew to six trucks and a dedicated salting unit.

  • 2021

Roof Snow & Ice Dam Removal Service Launched

After a severe ice storm damaged dozens of roofs regionally, we added certified roof-snow removal to our roster — filling a major gap in local snow service offerings.

  • 2025

    400+ Seasonal Contracts & Growing

Today D&D Snow Services is one of the largest dedicated snow removal operators in Waterloo Region, with a mixed residential-commercial portfolio and same-season booking that fills every fall.

Community Involvement

Safe properties, safe neighbours — it goes beyond our client list.

D&D Snow Services believes that snow clearance is a community service, not just a business. Each winter we provide complimentary sidewalk salting and pathway clearing for two senior community centres in Waterloo Region, ensuring elderly residents can safely access services during storm events.

We also partner with local fire stations to ensure apparatus bay aprons and emergency access routes near our contracted zones are cleared promptly after each major snowfall — because some clearances can't wait. Our team regularly participates in regional emergency preparedness planning sessions to help coordinate snow response in the event of a major winter storm declaration.

How Our Contracts Work

Simple, fair seasonal agreements designed to protect you — not just us.

📅

Seasonal Fixed Pricing

Pay one flat seasonal rate regardless of snowfall volume. No per-visit billing surprises in a heavy year.

📱

Storm Notifications

Clients receive an SMS alert when our crews are en route to their property. Know exactly when you're covered.

🗺

Defined Trigger Depths

Contracts clearly state accumulation triggers (e.g., 2cm for salting, 5cm for plowing) — no ambiguity about when service kicks in.

🕒

Annual Rollover Option

Existing clients get first right of renewal each August — locking in their rate before new-client pricing applies.
